Intrepid: after pressing file->open GUI apps hang for ~20 seconds before
displaying filesystem dialog

Note: Although this example describes gedit, the problem is happening
across many GUI apps including firefox.

When I press file->open while using gedit the process freezes and takes
anywhere between 10 and 30 seconds to open the filesystem browse window
(GtkFileChooser?). Gedit behaves this way every time I press
file->open, or file->Save As. I've attached a trace using "strace -Ff
-tt gedit" which shows this behavior at the following position:

11504 11:31:47.695478 poll( <unfinished ...>
11506 11:31:56.591242 <... poll resumed> [{fd=8, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10,
events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=13, events=POLLIN},
{fd=14, events=POLLIN}], 5, 8893) = 0
11506 11:31:56.591401 gettimeofday({1226518316, 591448}, NULL) = 0

If gedit knows the filename and I select file->save, there is no delay
in writing the file to disk. Also, when I use bash under gnome-terminal
I see no delays. Since I don't see everyone filing this same bug his
leads me to believe I may have a missing dependancy for gnome, gvfs or
dbus.

This began immediately on a fresh installation of Intrepid. Hardy did
not have this behaviour.

Can someone please help me diagnose this problem?

Thanks much,
-Terry
