I did run into the same problem trying to create a search folder. For a specific IMAP account it insists to use "mbox:..." notation instead of the "imap:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/folder". However, on for a different account with a different provider the correct notation is used. I can't see the differences in the settings for those two accounts.
The only thing that dawned on me is that the problematic account is way older than the one where the search folders work. However, I can't pinpoint the time when I created the 2nd account. The older one got dragged through at least 2 or 3 distribution release upgrades, where the newer one did not.
