hey,
there have been some enhancements to gstreamer lately to enable the reading of
metadata of icecast internet radio stations.
more can be found here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333657
everything has been included in the latest gst updates, besides the
little patch in comment #33 of the above bug report.
so, I officially ask someone to just recompile gst-base with that patch
to enable all the magic in icydemux. :)
it works just fine with rhythmbox :) you get nice little notifications
when the song changes in the stream :)

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gstreamer';
however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
