Ahah. This looks like a known issue. Ati have only just recently been kind enough to let non-Microsoft users use their graphics cards. It might be a while before some decent open-source drivers become available. A workaround in the meantime is to open a terminal window (Applications menu - Accessories - Terminal) and type
gstreamer-properties in the pop-up box choose the Video tab and from the output drop-down list choose the option that says '... (no Xv)' Good luck and have fun.
