Binary package hint: rhythmbox
I open Skype. Then I try to make a test call. It succeeds in doing so.
I open Rhythmbox (but don't start playing any music). I try to make a
test call in Skype. Success. I start playing music in Rhythmbox. I
try to make a test call in Skype. Failure. I pause the music in
Rhythmbox. I try to make a test call in Skype. Failure. I close
Rhythmbox. I try to make a call in Skype. Usually, it works. However,
on occasion, I have to do a soft restart (ctrl+alt+backspace) in order
to get Skype to work again. I'm not sure what the pattern is. Usually,
if I've been running audio in Rhythmbox for awhile, the soft restart is
required. The error that Skype displays in the GUI on these occurrences
is "Problem with Audio Playback".
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid.
Skype is version 2.0.0.72.
Rhythmbox is version 0.11.6.
