This is similar to #197288, but I don't notice this problem with any
application other than GIMP. GIMP does have "always on top" windows,
but I also had this problem with the version provided with Gutsy, which
didn't have the always on top windows.
The problem occurs when I choose a file using Open, or open a file using
GIMP from Nautilus while GIMP is already in use; this does not occur if
I open a file from the recent documents menu. For example, if I'm
working on Graphic 'A', and I realise I need to use Graphic 'B', which I
have not edited recently, and go to open 'B' using the Open command, 'B'
looks like it's being opened in front of 'A', but ends up being put
behind 'A'. Similarly, if I'm working on 'A' and I open 'B' from
Nautilus, 'B' opens, again looking like it will be placed on top of the
Nautilus window, but ends up appearing behind the Nautilus window, yet
in front of 'A' (the "always on top" windows appear in front of the
Nautilus window, even though they were behind the Nautilus window when I
chose for the file to open. Most peculiarly, however, is the fact that
the window I just opened, despite being behind the window it was
supposed to be opened in front of, is the active window, which has
resulted in my accidentally closing the newly opened window while trying
to close the file that was in front before.
This has become a very frustrating, and time consuming, problem for me
as I've been working on multiple images simultaneously for a project,
and these files are often spread throughout a number of subdirectories
within the primary directory for the project itself. The enclosed image
was created to provide you with a visual example of this bug.
