That is true, but any software updates need to meet Stable Release Update criteria found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
The only way I see this qualifying is if it can be accepted under "Bugs which represent severe regressions from the previous release of Ubuntu. This includes packages which are totally unusable, like being uninstallable or crashing on startup." However, we don't have a minimal patch for this, and I have been unable to find this bug being reported then fixed in newer versions of Ubuntu. Maybe a developer can help us get a patch for this stable version if they think this bug qualifies for SRU. This also seems similar to bug 245005 which was closed while waiting for an apport report which never came.
