You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Note: this is different from all the reports about being unable to see
shares on the network. I experience that too, but I navigate to the
share manually by the host address (smb://192.168.1.200/share). Once
there, I just see nothing, but in fact there are supposed to be some
directories.
I'm using a completely fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 (just rebooted from
the installer).
Perhaps this is related: when I browse the share using smbclient, this
is what I see:
jin...@jingxi-e1505:~$ smbclient -I 192.168.1.200 //linkstation/share
Enter jingxi's password:
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.2.8a-ja-1.1]

These are not the actual names of the directories; they're all missing
the final letters (Media, Yang, Applications, Cache, etc.).
The server is actually the following device, in case this makes a
difference:
http://www.buffalotech.com/products/network-storage/linkstation
/linkstation-pro/
But everything works fine using Windows as the client.
In the end I just mounted the thing manually using mount -t cifs, but it
would've been nice to be able to browse the share via Nautilus.
Thanks in advance for any help.
