Same (perhaps) problem on Asus A8F with the same Analog Devices AD1986A chip. when run with the current kernel (Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic) there is no external mic option in kmix or alsamixer although there is one when run with an older kernel (2.6.24-21-generic). Neither internal nor external mic works in skype. It used to work in previous versions of ubuntu.
I am running Kubuntu by the way. I am interested in seeing this bug resolved, so I could provide any tests needed to get more info about this problem.
