Public bug reported:
System:
Ubuntu 8.10 (AMD64) on Sony Vaio VGN-NS10J/S.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
uname -a:
Linux newton 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem:
1) The laptop has two mute button combinations - the first is Fn+F2,
which works perfectly out-the-box; the second is a dedicated button,
which does not. I have attempted to assign this key using the GUI app.
(System | Preferences | Keyboard Shortcuts), however this lists the key
as "XF86MonBrightnessDown" and pressing the key acts as the name
describes - it lowers the screen brightness. It therefore seems that
there is a bug that maps these two keys to the same logical name.
2) Suspend works correctly when using the power icon (top right),
however when I assign a shortcut to suspend, again using the GUI app. as
described in (1), it does not. The key I assign is identified as
"XF86Launch2" - this is the "AV MODE" button, normally used to switch
output device (when Windows is installed). I have verified that the "AV
MODE" key generates key-press events by assigning it to mute audio.
