This is actually a different bug, I am talking about the desktop icons,
not the ones on the panel.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 44082
   GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start
in some situations

** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
       Status: Invalid => New

** Summary changed:

- Remember panel and icon positions for startup
+ Remember panel and desktop icon positions for startup

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome

  During startup of gnome, first the desktop icons appear and then later
  when the top panel appears, the icons move down. Gnome should just
  remember the position before last logout/shutdown and they could be
- positioned right immediately.
+ positioned right immediately. Or the panel could be made to appear
+ first, before the desktop icons appear.
