I think you meant file-roller and not gedit?
A. Opening a compressed file via terminal: file-roller /url/to/compressed/file
=> warning in ~/.xsession-errors
B. Opening a compressed file via gnome-open (terminal or started via a web
browser): gnome-open /url/to/compressed/file => warning in ~/.xsession-errors
C. Double-Click on a compressed file => no warning in ~/.xsession-errors
