Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid, Rhythmbox 0.11.6 (was intstalled automatically
with Ubuntu).
0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.3 (intrepid updates)
I'm using Rhythmbox against my MP3 Library collection across a Windows
Share (SMB). When it scans a directory and builds its index of albums
and artists it can get confused if you have put two albums under the
same sub-directory. Here's what I did:
Directory Structure:
/erykah badu/erykah badu - erykah badu/baduism
/erykah badu/erykah badu - erykah badu/erykah badu live
Rhythymbox thought this was two albums: "baduism" and "erykah badu live"
but in the tracklist it duplicated the tracks and the duplicated ones
had different mp3 ID genres (set to Unknown). It was very confusing for
a while but I figured out that if I corrected my directory structure to
this:
/erykah badu/baduism
/erykah badu/erykah badu livek
Rhythmbox saw two albums and the correct number of tracks.
So it looks like it tried to read two albums but merged the two lists
together. I thought this might indicate an illegal directory structure
situation that either Rhythmbox could warn users about or perhaps a
problem with the looping mechanism that counts up tracks under albums.
I would have expected it to find one album: "erykah badu - erykah badu"
and then combine the subdirectories.
Also noteworthy, the "erykah badu - erykah badu" directory was empty (if
that helps).
Thanks for making some great software everyone!
