I have 8.04 updated today 2/15/2009.
I am on a hp compaq nc6000 laptop with atheros 5212/5213 reported by
lspci
I have been messing aroudn with the wifi a lot trying to get it to work
right. it does but....
somewhere along the line, it started making my gnome login freeze.
I get the normal brown background, then a large light gray box in the
upper lefthand corner of the screen.
The cursor, when moved into the box, turns into a 'text selection'
cursor, as though it were a terminal or something. The cursor in the
rest of the screen is an ordinary arrow.
Gnome 'Failsafe' also didn't exactly work.
My solution was to delete a bunch of ~/.gnome* files and reboot a few
times and log in failsafe mode...
These are bugs in the UI, in error reporting, in failsafe not being
failsafe, etc. Thank you for reading.
