You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Either the font size, or the vertical alignment on of the text in the
gdm login box is ever so slightly off. As a result the black circles
(and to a lesser extent the text of the username) inside the box as you
type overlap with the border.

This may seem like a nitpick, and I'm not really sure if the pictures do
it justice, but it is not aesthetically pleasing, and definitely did not
do this with the exact same hardware on 8.4

In any case, I would be nitpicking unless I wanted ubuntu to be the most
polished, slick operating system out there.

I have included two pictures. One of the password (where it is most
notable) and another with the username.
