Hi Brendon,

I guess I should have figured out the source of the problem...I'm 
feeling pretty stupid right now.  It was just that some of the fonts had 
been set to 13.33 in the preferences>appearance>font menu.  What 
confused me is that only some of the fonts were changed to 13.333, while 
others remained at 10.  This lead most applications to be perfectly fine 
(including firefox), and only two (thunderbird and skype) to display 
huge fonts.  Sort of thought it had to be something complicated, if two 
mozilla programs reacted so differently.  Sorry for the rather 
inappropriate bug post.  And thank you for your kind and polite reply!
