I've installed the binary package gnome-volume-control-pulse:

and I now have 2 ways of acessing volume properties, the old "gnome-
sound-properties" and the new "gnome-volume-control-settings", both
appearing in the gnome-control-center. Since the new volume-control is
supposed to replace this, I think installing this package should somehow
disable the old settings application.
