Our configuration is a lab of networked computers on 100 Mbit link full
duplex and tested.  We mount /home over NFS, and the NFS server is on
the local LAN.  Machines are running Breezy and are updated to latest.
The workstations are IBM ThinkCentre of various sub-models, some with
Hyper-Threading and some without.

I don't know what packages on Linux would replace something like filemon, but I 
bet that some resource is being thrashed.  Can you think of any reason why?
