Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When the gnome gnome is on the left in Jackalope (panel
properties->orientation->left):

1) The main menu is in reversed order (System, Places, Applications
instead of Applications, Places, System). The Ubuntu logo should be
first.

2) The order could not be changed using "edit menus". You can drag&drop
the items in the "Menus" column but without effect.

3) When the panel is enough wide (e.g. 100px, panel properties->size)
the orientation of the text should be changed to horizontal
("Applications" could be short-cuted to "Apps") in the same manner as
Clock applet rotates the text.

4) The orientation of the text in keyboard indicator should be also
changed.

5) The icon of deskbar-applet should not enlarge to full size of the
panel. The arrow near the icon should be placed on the right of the icon
instead on the bottom if the panel is enough wide.

6) Also icons in the Notification Area should be placed horizontally
instead of vertically.

7) The size off all icons in applets (Main menu, Luncher, Notification
Area, Network Manager, User Switcher, Window menu selector, deskbar,
...) should be the same.

The GNOME Panel 2.26.0. See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187540,
