Oops. Didn't know it'd post as a comment. Dapper Drake. Well, 1) shows the ugly icon for gnome-netstatus. 2) shows the file gnome-netstatus-idle (which I believe it is using), in the same folder you also have the similar-looking: 3) network-recieve. Doesn't look like it's being used though.
Anyway; as you can see, Network Mananger shows a good icon on the right, while netstatus uses the same set - but not working as good.
