Thanks for your report. It sounds like you are talking about using nautilus, the default file manager? If so, this is a bug in nautilus and I will assign the package.
For future reference, nautilus (and many other applications) has a "Report a problem" entry right in the Help menu which will take care of part of bug reporting for you including all the useful information.
