Ugh, ran into this problem on Dapper. Rhythmbox plays back certain Apple Lossless files but not others (none are protected). Playing directly off iPod, all tag info shows up correctly in properties. Fails using ALSA, ESD, and OSS. Machine has an Audigy 2 internal card (from Dell). Maybe that's the culprit? Seems to be a constant here.
