Public bug reported:
In Jaunty, it takes around a minute or so to start up inkscape and gimp
remotely through x11, even when doing it locally using 127.0.0.1.
Also , the majority of inkscape's tools are almost unusable, since it
takes around 10-20 seconds to draw a line after you really draw that
line using your mouse. The tools affected are tweak, eyedropper with
just mouseover, and tweak, 3d, pencil, pen, callig, text, connector,
eyedropper , when using them.
This will also affect all LTSP setups on Jaunty.
Steps to reproduce:
- allow remote X11 connections on your machine.
- startup gimp or inkscape doing "DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 gimp" (or
DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 inkscape)
- wait...
- try to use inkscape without screaming :-)
Just did interrupt gimp and inkscape when they were completely started,
here are the results:
time DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 gimp
real 0m51.580s
user 0m3.964s
sys 0m0.264s
when run locally
time gimp
real 0m6.731s
user 0m2.476s
sys 0m0.280s
This really seems to be X related , and related to new libraries in
Jaunty. I did try to test it replacing Inkscape binary with Intrepid's
one, and the behavior was the same. Also, I tested it using NX , and
this behavior wasn't happening.
