well example will try to give instructions of reproductions (reproduces
as such on my machine)

1.) open example folder in home directory with nautilus
2.) open the sample .spx file in the example folder 
(~/Examples/fables_01_01_aesop.spx)
3.) totem will open itself
4.) totem gives stated error without playing the file, but doesnt crash

the file itself works, tried it with my stable 8.04 install.

On Karmic, i also installed the medibuntu debs, but i think they are not
important here as they are just for copyright protected formats, not for
such things as the .spx format/codec. am i right there?

I hope i did understand your question for example, if not please explain
to me. A screenshot is imo just a waste of time as i can only show the
error-message allready described.
