Well Sebastien, I don't think that system log is directed to "everyone". Obviously I also think 3d info is nowadays a useful info for a typical user; let's think at a user that has problems to play a 3d game and want to discover if, at least, 3d of his graphics card is enabled or not: in Windows or Mac is a simple work to do and I don't understand why it's not possible to do the same job in Ubuntu (under SUSE, at least until the version 10, this info was in the display properties of yast).
