It seems like I might have the same problem. Whenever I type something, let's say 'Documnts'. And because it's misspelled I hit backspace to correct it, but then Deskbar freezes.
Similarly, I have to kill deskbar-applet to make it reload. One other thing is that when I move the cursor over the input field it 'disappears' -- very strange. I have tried to run it from CLI to get any errors messages, but no luck.
