Public bug reported:
Under Jaunty (but this issue was already present in Intrepid, and
possibly in earlier Ubuntu version), gnome font rendering settings are
not honored by Qt3 and Qt4 applications.
I know that properly speaking this is not a bug, as Qt* apps are
independent from the Gnome environment, but it is quite annoying. For
the average newbie user, the most visible consequence is that the fonts
in skype (and other popular Qt applications, such as Amarok, K3B,
qjackctl etc...) are all messed up and ugly, and there is no way to
change it :-(
A way to manually fix this issue is to create a .fonts.conf file in the
user home directory and replicate the gnome settings by hand. Another
fix is to install the whole KDE infrastructure and then change the
settings from the control panel, but it is quite an overkill.
