You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The first login on the startup fails randomly. After the username and
password has been typed in, the startup console is shown for a brief
moment and the user is returned to the Gnome login screen. On the second
attempt the session is loaded successfully.

This behaviour is random and does not occur on every startup. Initially
I suspected that this is related to the closing of the lid of the laptop
during the previous shutdown. It seemed after some testing to be
reproducible, but after filing the bug the behaviour has become random.
I have not experienced similar behaviour on either Intrepid or Hardy on
the same hardware.

I have attached some information I suspect is relevant, but I am happy
to provide any additional information which might be useful.

System: Lenovo Thinkpad T61p
