I think the bets way to go forward is to by default have the 'Collection' button in the toolbar, this way it is very easy to activate.
The reason I say this is because at the moment, eog is used as a quick image viewer. For this purpose it does not need the collection pane as eog is typically used for viewing one image, and then closed. Any comments?
