You have been subscribed to a public bug:
1) Ubuntu 9.10 (alpha4, AMD64)
When adjusting the volume in (for example) gnome-mplayer, the volume level in
the sound preferences will only go down.
For example, if the volume level in gnome-mplayer is at 50% and the volume
level in gnome-volume-control is at 50%, and I turn UP the volume in
gnome-mplayer to 55%, the volume level in gnome-volume-control goes DOWN to 8%.
I expect that gnome-volume-control's volume level should not change when
adjusting the volume in another application, or that it would mirror the
volume level in that application.
I have also noted that if I start playing a file in gnome-mplayer,
gnome-volume-control's volume goes down as well. Also, gnome-volume-
control does not recognize that gnome-mplayer as a sound app (sound
preferences -> applications shows "no application is currently playing
or recording audio")
I have seen similar behaviour (at least with the volume changing when I
start an app) with other programs as well.
