I was struck by this bug today again, so maybe its not been fixed yet. I am using gnome-power-manager 2.27.91 and xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu5
The Karmic installation is a daily image from 29 August 2009 I was just browsing and my screen went blank, after moving the mouse the screen came back.
