Thanks Sebastien, here's a backtrace, but I am not sure I am doing it
right; I get to the part where I type "continue" and then try to
replicate the problem.  After opening a window, nautilus peaks the cpu,
then stops.  I have to open a new terminal and type "killall nautilus"
to continue making the backtrace; CTRL+C doesn't work, as suggested at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace .
