Thank you for your bug report. The crashing on logout is fixed with the
latest gnome-session. If you're still seeing a crash, then please use
Apport to submit a crash report instead of just opening an empty bug
report with hardly any information in it. It is impossible to fix
crashes without information such as a backtrace or valgrind log.

The authentication prompt appearing late is a side-effect of the port to
Policykit 1. Fixing that depends on implementing a new Consolekit API
and porting gnome-session to that, which is not an insignificant amount
of work and too late for Karmic now. The details of that can be found

Please use ubuntu-bug to submit bug reports in future (or if it is a
crash, please use Apport to submit the crash report when prompted).
