Public bug reported:

When running a system with more than 1 sound device (in my case the on-
board-sound and some Logitech USB Speakers) gdm crashs or jams pulse
sound server, when "Login Successful" sound is enabled. So that no
system sounds can be played and so on.

This situation doesn't change even if "Login Successful" is disabled and the
System is rebooted.
The Problem also can't be solved by setting the correct device as default with
“asoundconf set-default-card CARD”.

The only way to solve this is to deactivate the "Login Successful"
sound, deactivate/remove the unused sound device and reboot the system.
