You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello, This is a 64bit Ubuntu 9.10 alpha6 desktop.
I am trying to set this machine to maintenance mode (single user mode) by issuing the init 1 command. $ sudo init 1 It should terminate the graphical UI and a blue, textual menu should appear. This does not happen any more. This is what happens. The graphical UI terminates and login screen seems to flash by, then the screen turns black and stays black (or in off mode). I need to press poweroff button or type the magick SysReq keys to restart the system.
