Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
ls -la does not show directory names.
However, it shows them if run using script, e.g. script -c "ls-la", or if
its output is redirected to a file, lile, e.g. ls -la >tmp, or if run
from superuser, i.e. sudo ls -la.
The problem occurs only when run normally from a non-superuser
account with output on a terminal.
It seems that it outputs characters that are not displayed: if you
select the output with the mouse, you can see that in reverse video.
