I am running Ubuntu Karmic beta 32 bit. I have a Canon SD550 which the system
sees as a Digital Ixus 750 (the European name)
There was a regression over the last year where the camera would mount on the
desktop and gthumb would fail to show the pictures on the camera because the
device was locked. This was resolved in Jaunty some months ago.

As of now, in Karmic, the problem has returned. If you plug in the
camera with ghumb import set as the default, the import tool will open,
an icon will appear on the desktop for the camera and then disappear.
You then get an error message that says "An error occured in the io-
library (could not lock the device): Camera is already in use".

To get it to work, you have to close the import tool, run gthumb and
then tell it to import photos. It then works as expected.

F-spot, works normally without problems on plugging in the camera.
However, I don't use F-spot.

gthumb, 2.10.11 in Ubuntu Karmic 32 bit beta as of October 4, 2009.

** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
