Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

gnome-volume-control / gnome-volume-control-applet provide no easy way
to unmute devices.

Sure, I just type 'alsamixer' in a terminal, unmute everything then save
my settings and I'm good to go.

But what about a new user?

Also, in the 'Sound Preferences' dialog all available options seem to
assume that the user will only want to output to one device at a time,
even though the system is more than capable of outputting to multiple
devices at once.
