I have a T61 with Ubuntu 8.04.
I use an external monitor connected to the VGA output. I turn the laptop
monitor off using the xrandr command. My screensaver kicks in after 5 mins and
the screen(s) turn off after 15 mins.
If I close the laptop lid both screens will turn off. I would like the external
VGA to stay on and close the laptop lid.
I went to System->Preferences->Power Management->On AC Power->Actions and set
the"When laptop lid is closed" option to "Do nothing".
That fixed half the problem. Now if I close the lid the external monitor stays
on.
But the screensaver will dimm the monitor off but will never display the
screensaver. If at that moment I open the lid the screensaver will start
showing on the VGA, and if I close the lid it goes back to black.
The monitor will never shutdown or go to standby mode.
The fact that I turn the laptop LCD of with xrandr makes no difference.
It seems like the option to do nothing when closing the lid is not consistent
too all processes that depend on it.
