I have an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (M6 LY) in my laptop. Some times I can go for hours before my machine hard freezes but it does eventually no matter what I do. If I right after logon start Evolution it is almost 100% certain the machine freezes while trying to draw the window on the exact same space.
I've tried the settings from @Ste_it above but with no luck.
