Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: nautilus
This is an ancient problem on the Gnome desktop but I have yet to find
an actual bug report filed against it. Please direct me to one if one
exists...
Often when the desktop environment is launched or when the desktop is
redrawn (after rearranging the icons, for example), the icons will be
sheared, missing chunks, or have other artifacts. Moving the mouse
selection rectangle across them causes them to be re-rendered without
the artifacts. This is relatively minor behavior but it really
contributes to an overall feeling that the desktop isn't as polished as,
say, OSX (whose windows resize and move without flicker and whose icons
remain unmolested).
It seems to affect 'emblems' the worst.
See attached screenshot.
