Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Trying to enable compiz (Appearence preferences > visual effects) I get
an error "The Composite extension is not available". I click OK, but it
doesn't close. I can no longer close the error or the appearance window.
I have to kill it with the PID. I got an nvidia graphics card with
driver installed & working (glxgears runs smoothly).
