Um, all I can say is I installed Thunderbird and migrated all my mail over from Evolution by copying files across. A day later I tried Evolution again out of curiosity (and continued using it). It has not asked for a single password since.
I don't know if installing and setting uip accounts on Thunderbird has changed much, but I installed Thunderbird on 20th, tried Evolution on 21st and it's never asked for a password since, so that's 4 days (and counting).
