Binary package hint: grub
upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 on advent notebook 4211b. Screen went blank (prob
time for screensaver) after last file downloaded & cld not revive it with
mouse. Hard disk light flashing. four hrs later still blank screen, hd light
now steady off - pressed enter & hd light began to flash. four hrs more &
repeated this.
When hd light steady again, turned machine off & on.
had hybrid grub menu,no sound. Battery, wlan icons all dull.
update mgr check reported outstanding tasks of sudo dpkg -- configure -a
ran this, rebooted, edited menu.lst and loaded 9.10 ok.
sound ok but icons still dulled tho they report correctly on mouseover. Can
live with that.
Suggest that upgrade process fails to cope if screensaver routine kicks in.
