The exiftool method is what I used to fix my corruption. Unfortunately I had some photos that had already been adjusted because my camera had the wrong date set for quite a long time. I forget the exact steps I took, but the end result was all of my photos being off by at least a couple hours. Stupidity on my part mostly.
