I have this problem too, with a Thinkpad T42 (and no problem with an eee 901):
The brightness and volume buttons work, but there is no OSD. I followed the instructions in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting, but got stuck at step 4. More detail: step 1 succeeded. step 2 tells me that xev is not receiving events for the brightness and volume buttons. in step 4, I get this: $ /lib/udev/findkeyboards AT keyboard: input/event4 module: input/event8 and then I try both of: $ sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event4 $ sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event8 Neither of these respond to the special keys. -- [KARMIC] Thinkpad T42P brightness OSD does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
