After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 (64 Bit), my desktop gets unusable.
The "top" command shows that the process "gnome-panel" uses 90% and more
of CPU time. Login with another user: the same. Removing
~/.gconf
~/.gnome
and restart also doesn't help.
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/panel
also doesn't help.
The panels are unusable (non-responsive) and some applets (like the user
switch applet) crash during login. Fortunately, I have wisely an icon on
the desktop to start a browser and a terminal. When I try to save a file
with the browser, the dialog opens and freezes. "top" then shows 90%+
CPU usage for the process "evince".
