Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

Hi, I searched for an open/reported bug but could not find it, sorry if
its been reported already. I have 2 PC's, this occured on only one and
seemed to follow the DVD RW that I have. I confirmed it on 386 no
updates applied, then installed k7 kernel same result. Then I built an
AMD64 PC using this DVD writer drive, and AMD64 install, same result.

Problem:
Most of the time, insert DVD close door, no automount, no way to force mount of
disc. Occasionally rebooting then opeinng and closing door, or inserting same
DVD after boot the automount works. Light on DVD blinks a bunch of times as it
reads it, then nothing. DVD burner is a Lite On , trying to force mount thru
Nautilus, "no media found". Tried with many DVD's that worked with my other DVD
burner and even occasionally with this Lite On. I belive its model SHW160P6S04.

CDR's are recognized all the time, Blank DVD-R's are recognized so far
no problem, just movies, legit movies. And yes, I'm just watching them
;) Also, I have have tried with libdvdcss2 installed and without, no
difference, this makes me think HAL or HAL device manager is involved ?
I could be very very wrong.

Let me know if its already reported or if you need more info, thanks.
FYI I tried reinstalling a few packages, gnome-session etc, no success.
