Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
While it's possible to add charsets beyond UTF-8 using the add/remove function, it's not possible to remove UTF-8 from the list, and as far as I can see, there's no way of setting a different default than the (to me) useless UTF-8 charset in gnome-terminal. This is a problem that's twofold: Ability to remove UTF-8 from the list (less important) The ability to set another charset as default (highly important).
