You can get the latest version (Ubuntu 9.10) at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download to test if this is still an issue for you. The Google calendar back end has been replaced by CalDAV interface for evolution in Ubuntu 9.10, so interaction with Google web services is supposed to be much better. Thanks in advance.
